Optometrist

Dr. Stella Onyekwelu is the chief optometrist and owner of Eminence Family Eye Care, LLC. She graduated with honors from Illinois College of Optometry in the beautiful city of Chicago. Before relocating to United States, Dr Onyekwelu initially graduated from the famous University of Benin in 2004 with a doctor of optometry degree (OD) in Nigeria. After that, she practiced as an optometrist for couple of years in Nigeria before moving to United States.

When she arrived United States, she went back into a full time optometry school at Illinois College of optometry to update herself to the standard of optometric practice in United States. She has won different scholarships and academic awards including being a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, tomb and key honor fraternity. Dr. Onyekwelu has experience working with patients in different clinical settings including VA hospital and ocular disease referral center. Her clinical interests include ocular disease, orthokeratology, Hard and soft contact lens fitting, dry eye treatment and pediatric eye care. She is certified to use medication to treat various eye conditions and is also certified to fit specialty contact lenses.
 

She is extremely passionate about optometry and has come across so many eye diseases having experienced optometric practice in two different countries. Dr. Onyekwelu being a mother of three kids herself is very comfortable working with kids of any age. Her passion to provide an excellent and high quality eye care to the people of United States led her to open her own private practice with a state of the art equipment where superior vision care and patient satisfaction are her personal commitment.
 

She is a member of American Optometric Association, Georgia Optometric Association, College of Optometry in Vision Development, Contact Lens Society of America. She is active in the community volunteering her services to low income patients through Vision USA program and hopes to participate in missionary trips to donate her time and services to those in desperate need of eye care. In her spare time Dr. Onyekwelu enjoys reading, watching movies, travelling for vacations and spending time with her family and three kids.
